Unit 1 - August
Project 1- Stamp
For my stamp I wanted to put an L on it because it is the fist letter of my name. This piece was simple I rolled out a piece of clay into a thick noodle. Then the rounded the top of the piece so I could but an L on. Lastly I mad and L and scored and slipped the L and put it onto the piece. I think what when well was putting the L onto the clay I thought that it was going to be a lot harder but it was fairly easy. If I were to do the piece over again I would try some thing a bit harder than a L. overall I think its a good piece.
Project 3 - Underglaze Painting
I made a coaster and tried to put palm trees and a sunset in the background. The first step I did in making the coaster was rolling out clay than cutting out a circle out. Next I got a needle tool and did an outline of palm trees. Finally out painted the palm trees in under glaze. A thing I like about this project is the palm trees I think that they came out very good also the water at the bottom I tried shading a darker blue with the lighter and it came out looking good. If I where to do the protect over I would do the sunset in the back differently because it did not turn out looking the best.
Project 2 - Two Pinch Pots Put Together
For this piece it was fairly simple I started out by building two pinch pots and I made the both a bit thicker that a normal one because I wanted them to be a bit more sturdy because if I made them to thin they would probability collapse on itself. One thing that I like about this piece is that It stayed together I thought that It would not stay together. If I were to do the piece over again I would try to connect the two pinch pots together better and clean it up a bit.
Project 2 - Relief Face
For this piece I did not have a designs in mind I was trying to go for an ordinary face. The first step in making the face was getting the right face shape I did that my rolling clay into a ball then shaping it into a face. Next I pressed my fingers into the clay where the eyes where going to be. Then I rolled too balls and put them in as eyes. Next I tried shaping a nose by adding a bit of clay and forming a mound and shaping it. Last step was the mouth which I did by carving into the face and scooping clay out. What went well on the project was forming the head I think that it is accurate to a face. If I where to do the project over I would make sure that the eyes are the dame size before putting them in because they are not even.
Project 1 - Cut in Half Pinch Pot
This pinch pot was hard for me because whenever I cut it in half one side would be thicker than another so it took me two tries before I got it how I wanted. How I made it is I started out with a ball of clay the stuck my thumb in the middle and pinched the sides until it started to make a bowl. Finally I cut it in half. In this piece their is not much that I like but it is not bad. If I where to do it again I would take more time and try to get the sides as even as possible because I think that I could have.
Project 3 - Useful Pinch pot
For this project I wanted to build a pencil holder because a have a very messy desk and home and this pot could hold all my pens and pencils. I started by rolling a ball of clay then sticking my thumb in the middle so it made some space so I could then pinch the sides to make a bowl. Next I tried to make it taller by pinching up so the clay would move to the top so it could be taller. Lastly I painted it and I went with the colors red and yellow and it turned out good. One thing that I like about this piece is that it is not bumpy and is very smooth. If I was to do the project over again I would try and make it a bit taller because I think that i would hold pens and pencils better.
Unit 2 - September
Project 4 Animal Sculpture
This piece I made a penguin because they are one of my favorite animals. I started out by rolling out clay into an oval and pinching the top a bit to form a head. Next I smoothed the hole body so there were bumps. Next I formed feet and scored and slipped them onto the body. Lastly I painted the body leaving part of the front belly white and the rest black, then I painted the feet and beak orange. One thing. This is my favorite piece that I made by far it turn out perfect. If I were to do this project again I would add eyes to the penguin. I would do noting else because I think that it looks good.
Project 5 - Historically Inspired Piece
For this Piece I tried making a a teapot. Teapots were created about the 1500 AD. Teapots in China were pottery and instead of uses for drinking tea they were use for water and alcohol. I started out by making a pinch pot then making a handle and scoring a slipping it on. Lastly I made a lid and added a handle to the top of it. One thing that I like about the piece is the handle I think that it turned out good. If I where to restart I would make the length of the pot a bit smaller because I think that it is to long otherwise I think that it is a good piece.
